DESIGN CHALLENGEWhat kind of design and apparel would help showcase all the dance teams in BDC?
Over 20 various dance organizations were part of the Berkeley Dance Community. BDC board members organized and held community events such as workshops and showcases as an opportunity to bring the different teams together.
IDEATION AND CREATIONThe results of a survey that was sent to every dance team in BDC showed that a hoodie was voted as the most favored apparel item. My initial design idea was to create a symbol that is simple and recognizable. After coming up with the smiley face design, I wanted to somehow carry the shape motif to the back design as well, which resulted in the format of the text containing all the dance organizations to be in a circle.
Since the smiley face design was rather simple, the production team and I opted to have the design be embroidered to create more interesting texture. We also sourced a local apparel printing service in Oakland rather than using an online apparel manufacturer.
